CSX Train Q138-06 (Chicago 63rd St-Baltimore Penn Mary)
Title:  CSX Train Q138-06 (Chicago 63rd St-Baltimore Penn Mary)
Description:  CSX Train Q138-06 (Chicago 63rd St-Baltimore Penn Mary) is eastbound at 8:00 am on July 6th 2001. He is about to pass under the SR60 bridge along Buck Creek at mp BG187.8 in Ruggles Twp., just south of New London OH. This is one of our favorite regions of the New Castle Subdivision; the West End, where the rail follows Buck Creek and, just five miles west of this location, where westward traffic off of the Greenwich SD joins the westward traffic off of the New Castle SD at Greenwich OH. When camping at the New London Reservoir Park Campground, we can simply sit back and watch all of the Big Four traffic AND easily railfan both subdivisions.

CSX train Q137-18 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 63rd St)
Title:  CSX train Q137-18 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 63rd St)
Description:  CSX train Q137-18 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 63rd St) is accelerating westward on track #1 past the EAS Warwick on the CSXT New Castle Subdivision in Clinton, Ohio at 6:35pm on August 18, 2000. CSX train S297-17 (Baltimore Curtice Bay-Toledo Walbridge) has taken the siding to let Q137 go around him. The siding is in the forground; Track #2 is in the background heading off to the right. This was once part of the Baltimore & Ohios mainline from Pittsburgh to Chicago, which wasnt completed until late in the 19th Century. It remains a vital link between Chicago and the Mid-Atlantic states.

CSX train Q221 (New Castle - Avon)
Title:  CSX train Q221 (New Castle - Avon)
Description:  Q221 no longer represents the New Castle-Avon profile, so we are looking at a train that no longer exists. On this Sunday August 20 2000, Q221-19 is pulling 45 cars of empty steel coils, racks, and cubes. This fellow drew a solo B36-7 and stalled on the western hill out of Akron earlier in the morning, allowing us to break camp at Cuyahoga Falls and get ahead to shoot him splitting the CPLs westward here at Sullivan, mp BG176.8 at 12:50 pm.

CSX train D750 (Willard-Akron Turn)
Title:  CSX train D750 (Willard-Akron Turn)
Description:  D750-06 (Willard-Akron Turn) is eastbound on track #2 at the Seven Hills CPLs mp BG 186.9 of the CSX New Castle Subdivision. With a Scottish Breakfast found in nearby New London, it is now 7:45 in the morning on Friday July 6th, 2001. This train interchanges traffic with the OHCR and the RJ Corman at Warwick and then works at Akron before turning back west to Willard in the afternoon. He usually rates a pair of elderly four-axle geeps or a mother/slug set. In a six-axle widecab GE world, D750 is always a treat. But you have to get up early to catch him this far west. Buck Creek, which provides the flat profile of this line for about 5 miles or so, is parallel to the rail about 75 yards to the north.

Q133-08 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 59th St)
Title:  Q133-08 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 59th St)
Description:  Q133-08 (Baltimore Penn Mary-Chicago 59th St) is hurtling westbound down #1 Track, splitting the Bailey Road signals at milepost BG123.3 of the New Castle subdivision in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The late afternoon light here is perfect for westbounds in the Winter months. Cuyahoga Falls is where the New Castle SD plunges down into the Little Cuyahoga River Valley in Akron. The ruling grade east of Sand Patch is here: 1.1%. Eastbounds facing that grade, which crests at the Bailey Road signals, are in Run 8 and working hard. On a clear night you can hear them grinding uphill for several minutes before they arrive. Westbounds like this one tend to be in full dynamic when they fly past, slowing down for the crawl through Akrons bottleneck at AY.

Q640 (Cumberland - Buffalo)
Title:  Q640 (Cumberland - Buffalo)
Description:  Q640-04 (Cumberland - Buffalo) is westbound on #1 track with CSXT 8754 (an SD60I) and HLCX 6074 (an SD40M-3) pulling 114 cars at 14:40 pm on May 4th, 2002. We are looking eastward from a point about 200 yards east of the Bailey Road signals at mp BG123.5 on the CSX New Castle Subdivision. The away shot was a real treat; a few moments later, he is now leaning into the curve at the signals. We normally dont see a cut of Conrail 50 footers at the head end of this train. Very fun!

Q640 (Cumberland-Buffalo) meets D702 (Warwick-New Castle Local)
Title:  Q640 (Cumberland-Buffalo) meets D702 (Warwick-New Castle Local)
Description:  Oh Pooh...if only B&O CPLs werent approach-lit...pictures like the one above would be commonplace. But the fact that the westbound Q640 (Cumberland-Buffalo) with CSXT 2689 leading on track #1 is blowing past an eastbound clear indication at the Bailey Road signals mp BG 123.8 of the CSX New Castle Subdivision means only one thing ... .that an eastbounnd is on the block on track #1. That eastbound is none other than D702 (Warwick-New Castle Local) with is usual (at this time) consist of CSXT 6931 and CSXT 2255.

CSX train D763 (New Castle - Warwick Local)
Title:  CSX train D763 (New Castle - Warwick Local)
Description:  Mother unit 6931 (GP40-2) and 2255 (Road slug) are pulling D763 (New Castle - Warwick Local) westbound on #1 track of the CSX New Castle subdivision pulling 23 cars just east of the Bailey Road signals at mp BG 123.5. Most folks prefer shooting in the Autumn months; I prefer Spring.
