CP 762
Title:  CP 762
Description:  CSX train X505-08 (CP Trois-Rivières-Blue Island) is moving westbound from track #1 to track #2 at mp CH20 EAS Stark Road of the CSX Detroit SD on a steamy saturday morning, June 8th 1996 1115 hours. Track #2 becomes the single main that crosses Plymouth Diamond and becomes the XSX Plymouth SD. Track #1 becomes the Saginaw Wye (NE wye) of Plymouth Diamond. NS 3283
Title:  NS 3283
Description:  A southbound GLM (River Rouge MI-Portage IN) has just departed River Rouge Yard on track #1 and is accelerating past Ford Avenue at milepost 11 in Wyandotte, Michigan on June 5th, 1999. The MGL and GLM trains usually have 4 axle High Hood NS units assigned to them. This day SD40-2, however, is an exception to the rule. The reason why four axles are common on this train is because when the train gets to Burns Harbor, the track is only good for the four axles units. Six axles require the inbound crew to swap out power before they can get on the Midwest Steel trackage. We were stoked. Here you can see the lay of the land along this four-track right of way. To the right is Conrail track #1 and the GTW River Spur. To the left is the GTW Shore Line Subdivision. It is not uncommon for a pair of trains moving in the same direction on separate mainlines to pass here simultaneously.

CP 5680
Title:  CP 5680
Description:  The last rays of early spring sunlight are streaming through the trees as CP run-though X511 (Toronto Agincourt-Kansas City) is howling westbound at Run 8 ascending Salem Hill. He is blowing for the Currie Road crossing at miepost CH 31.5 of the CSX Plymouth Subdivision. The Spring Peepers are already making a racket by this time, temporarily shouted down by the passing of X511. After he has gone west the Peepers will be joined by the evening laughter of Robins.

CP 5847
Title:  CP 5847
Description:  CP run-through train X512 (Kansas City-Toronto Agincourt) is eastbound descending Salem Hill, the ruling grade between Detroit and Chicago, through the hamlet of Salem, MI at milepost 31 of the CSX Plymouth Subdivision. CP trains were roughly 50% of traffic on the CSXT Plymouth Subdivision at this time. That would change, however, when CP elected to do business with NS instead on the mid 2000s. I lived just outside of the hamlet from 1994-2002, and so I was treated to all manner of CP and Soo power. As a side note, a pack of coyotes lived about 200 yards from me between my house and the CSX mainline. Come nightfall they would howl back at CP horns when blowing for the Currie Road crossing, but said nary a peep to CSX horns.

CP 5847
Title:  CP 5847
Description:  Train Symbol CP run through Z511 (Toronto Agincourt -Kansas City) is westbound at milepost CH 30.2 of the CSX Plymouth Subdivision at Salem, MI. Time: 15:30, Date: 2/17/96.: BFI's Salem Landfill, one of the largest in the country, is on the left. The building in the distance is BFI's MRF (Materials Recovery Facility), which collects glass, tin, aluminium, newsprint, and cardboard. In 1995 CSX constructed an industrial spur into the MRF, which ships out bundled cardboard in CSX Waffle Boxcars. This is one of the steepest grades on CSX in the State of Michigan and is the ruling grade between Plymouth and Grand Rapids. Until the advent of CSXT's AC4000CWs, this was a helper district (Plymouth-South Lyon).

ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard)
Title:  ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard)
Description:  This is an unusual daytime appearence for ML441 (Detroit North Yard-IHB Gibson Yard), who was struggling to keep his train moving at track speed on the main through Chelsea, Michigan. We counted 60 loaded autoracks. The red flag on the rear of the BN covered hopper marks the tail end of WDWA-01, who has released his Form D so that Amtrak 350 and this ML441 can get around him. We are standing just west of Chelsea Milling, aka Jiffy Mix, looking east toward downtown Chelsea. Through the grain transloading area on the right can be seen the former Michigan Central passenger depot. 2:00pm 4/30/99

SOO 6620, CP 4205
Title:  SOO 6620, CP 4205
Description:  CP runthrough R202 (Schiller Park-Montréal) is eastbound at milepost CH 32.3 on the CSX Plymouth Subdivision Seven Mile Road Curve, Salem MI, Time: 14:03, Date: 2/9/95. Back in the good old days of 1994 and 95, CP was running White SOO units and Alcos and a grimy rainbow of lease units; rarely was a consist all of one paint scheme. I was determined to record as many as I could, even in crummy light (Kodachrome 200 really came in handy that winter).

J782-28 (Cincinnati-Dayton Local)
Title:  J782-28 (Cincinnati-Dayton Local)
Description:  CSX train J782-28 (Cincinnati-Dayton Local) is northbound leaning into a curve at milepost BE 46.7 on the CSX Toledo subdivision. This is the first time that I caught two ex-Seaboard Coast Line units on the same train, and sole power at that. Boy did they ever sound awesome! J782 is one of my favorite non AK Steel-related trains because he almost always has solid EMD standard cab consists. Bernie Moening, Brother, this one is for you.
