T849 (Ceredo River WV-Middletown) |
Description: |
CSX train T849 (Ceredo River WV-Middletown) is northbound on the Middletown Subdivision at HM Junction milepost BED 4.0. He is pulling loads of coking coal for Sun Coke in Middletown. We cannot think of a gloomier day to be here (you KNOW that its dark and gloomy when you can see the backlit numberboards), but I am glad that I was present because the spring switch shown here, which connects the Middletown SD with the Overpect Cutoff, has since been replaced. |

K587-17 (Ashland KY-Middletown) |
Description: |
CSX train K587-17 (Ashland KY-Middletown) is northbound, pulling loads of ultra-low carbon steel slabs from the AK Steel Ashland Works at Ashland KY on the CSX Middletown Subdivision at HM Junction milepost BED 4.0. He departed the CSX Toledo Subdivision at Middletown Junction at New River Yard just a mile back or so. The crew has the EC form from the LA Dispatcher to go to North Excello Yard (just outside Middletown); from there he is under the jurisdiction of the North Excello Yardmaster.. The rather Cyborg-looking affair next to the locomotives pilot is the signal that protects the fairly new switch at HM Junction (it replaced a spring switch). The track on the right is the siding track from HM Junction to NAS Overpeck Junction on the Toledo Subdivision. This is a daily train, which is indicative of how busy that the AK Steel Middletown works are these days. |

K185 (Toledo Dock-Middletown) |
Description: |
CSX train K185 (Toledo Dock-Middletown) is northbound at milrpost 46.7 of the CSX Toledo subdivision heading back to the Toledo Docks for another load of Taconite bound for AK Steel in Middletown. This train retains the date of origin on the retrun trip, much like coal trains used to. Of note here is that both units pulling the train are wearing the YN2 paint scheme, which is becoming an increasingly rare event. I stand in awe of the weathering on CSX 379. |

Q501-17 (Chicago/BRC Clearing-Cincinnati) |
Description: |
CSX train Q501-17 (Chicago/BRC Clearing-Cincinnati) is southbound and is about to hit the private crossing at BE 46.7 Miamisburg on the CSX Toledo Subdivision This train, which is almost always more than a mile long, was generously powered by a widenose-lovers wet dream: CREX 1205 (Citicorp Railmark, Inc aka CITIRAIL), a GE ES44AC; CEFX 1056 (CIT Group/Capital Finance, Inc), a GE AC44CW; CN 5693, an EMD SD75I; CSX 718, a GE ES44AC, plus a CSX GE product that was dead in tow. Even I was impressed. |
